Abstract
The chromosomal inducible Tc-r determinant from Proteus mirabilis was clone d and the nucleotide sequence of both the structural and repressor genes de termined. The deduced amino acid sequence of the structural protein shows t he highest similarity to TetA(H) from Pasteurella multocida (78.4%), follow ed by TetA(B) from Tn10 (50.9%). Based on this analysis, we suggest that th is new determinant can be assigned to a new class, TetJ. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
