Abstract
A 30m prototype of 100MVA(66kV- 1kA) high temperature superconducting (HTSC ) power cable system was developed for the first time ever. This system con sists of a 30m long single phase cable (made with our cable manufacturing m achines with some additional improvements), terminations, a 66kV XLPE cable for a current loop, and a closed cycle liquid nitrogen cooling system. Aft er being cooled down, 40kV-1kA ac was successfully applied in sub-cooled li quid nitrogen (72K, 1.2kg/cm(abs)(2)) regardless of mechanical stress, such as handling in the factory, transportation, laying, and the axial force du e to contraction during cooling down.
