Abstract
This paper describes the studies related with the conception a new compact tower called High Surge Impedance Loading Line ( HSILL) as an alternative f or the new 500 kV, AC expansion of the FURNAS transmission system. Those st udies considered specific digital programs for evaluation of the best optim ized bundle conductors configuration, phase-to-phase insulation electrical strength laboratory tests and overvoltage studies, radio-interference and c orona losses measurements.
