Caracterisation of a residual stress profile is complex in crankshaft's gro
oves. Precautions are needed du to the limited accessibility of X'rays in t
he groove, the geometry of the groove and the specific stress field induced
by the deep rolling. This study has been performed in cooperation between
ENSAM and RENAULT and ended at the determination of residual stress profile
in crankshaft deep rolled grooves. This article presents the difficulties
encountered, the measurement methodology and the caracterisation of a resid
ual stress profile in series cast iron GS61 crankshafts.
