Resolution of fear of flying with fluoxetine treatment

Fear of flying is a common specific phobia usually treated with behavior th erapy; the possibility of pharmacologic treatment has received very little study. The authors report two cases in which successful fluoxetine treatmen t of major depressive disorder unexpectedly and unintentionally resolved a concomitant fear of flying that had preceded the depressive disorder.
