LaCo13 and La(Co, Fe)(13) alloys have been prepared and studied as high tem
perature, high performance soft magnetic materials. The de magnetic propert
ies have been measured over a temperature range of 10-1273 K in fields of 0
to 5 T. Data obtained show that the de magnetic properties (H-c,K-1) of th
e La(Co, Fe)(13) bulk alloys are comparable with Fe bulk alloy and T-c = 10
21-1297 K are higher than that of Fe and Hiperco; ac magnetic properties ar
e first time reported in a bulk LaCo13 alloy, showing a reasonably higher p
ower loss than that of commercial Hiperco alloy. The ac magnetic properties
can be improved by making LaCo13 alloys as laminated thin sheets. (C) 1998
