Abstract
We have investigated the characteristics of model magnetic media using diff erent strategies for the "anisotropy design." We modeled media with intragr ain anisotropy oriented random in the plane of the media, random in 3D, and aligned along the track direction, and for a large range of anisotropy fie ld H-k and intergranular exchange J. We report a possible scaling function which collapses data for all three geometries onto a single universal curve . The rescaled data were then analyzed along with the signal-and-noise func tions from the various model materials. For any geometry, we find a relatio n between exchange and anisotropy which maximizes the signal-to-(media) noi se function. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-8979(98)33211-9 ].
