C. Michelsen et al., A multi-center prospective study of the CD spinal system in patients with degenerative disc disease, J SPINAL D, 11(6), 1998, pp. 465-470
This paper reports on 41 patients available for 24 months' follow-up who we
re entered into a prospective, multi-center study of the safety and efficac
y of using the CD Spinal System (Sofamor Danek) containing pedicle screws a
nd rods to treat adult patients with degenerative disc disease. All of thes
e patients were implanted with only the CD Spinal System in an attempt at f
using four levels or less with autogenous bone graft only. At 24 months the
results were compared to literature controls in regard to fusion, pain, fu
nction, neurological status, and complications. For function and neurologic
al status, the CD Spinal System results were found to be statistically equa
l to and for fusion, pain, and complications, found to be statistically bet
ter than the noninstrumented literature controls with the same disease cond
ition and demographics.
