Abstract
The paper examines the potential pollution of rivers due to surface-water d ischarges from newly-built sections of the A74(M) motorway in south-west Sc otland. A method for assessing the theoretical risks of pollution of road d rainage is compared with the results of discharge monitoring. The impact of motorway runoff on the invertebrate fauna of watercourses is also investig ated.
