Abstract
The rate constants for the electron transfer of samarium diiodide to 2-hept anal, 2-methyl valeraldehyde and diphenyl sulfoxide were obtained for the f irst time. The reaction is first order in these substrates and there are hi nts that the reaction rate has a strong steric dependence. HMPA exhibited a profound catalytic effect but t-BuOH did not. The effect of temperature on reaction rates was also obtained.
