Abstract
A model calculation for the dissociative scattering of hydrogen molecules f rom metal surfaces is carried out with the aid of the Hubbard model for the metal substrate. The Coulomb interaction between electrons in the substrat e is taken account of within the single-site approximation in calculating t he probability distribution of the dissociative scattering. It is shown tha t the probability for the dissociative scattering of hydrogen molecules inc reases as the magnitude of the Coulomb interaction between electrons in the metal substrate is increased.
