This research project was initiated in response to the concern for the risi
ng traffic congestion and the likely changes in household characteristics d
ue to the invasion-displacement of a major portion of the population of Kuw
ait. The post-invasion socio-economic traits and travel behavior of househo
lds in Kuwait is reported. A systematic random sample of 1500 heterogeneous
households were person-interviewed. In addition to presenting the socioeco
nomic traits of the sample households, the result of the analysis of househ
old travel behavior in terms of vehicle-and person-trip rates, by purpose,
by mode, by time-of-day, by number of persons per trip, and by trip duratio
n is also reported. The result of a correlation analysis and chi-square tes
ts demonstrated the significance of the causal relationships which existed
between the households' socio-economic traits and their travel behavior. A
comparative analysis was also made between the pre- and post-invasion socio
-economic, modal distribution and travel behavior, for both the Kuwaiti and
the non-Kuwaiti sample households.
