Three hundred and six fish comprising 83 species were examined for ascarido
id larvae during the period from October 1992 to September 1995. Thirty eig
ht fishes (10.5%) belonging to 22 species were infected with 9 types of asc
aridoid third-stage larvae: Anisakis simplex, Ten anova sp., Contracacum sp
. and 6 different types of Hysterothylacium sp. (KA-KF). Hysterothylacium l
arvae (including all types) were found in all of the infected fishes except
one (97.3%); Terranova larvae were found in 12 fishes (31.5%, 12 species);
Anisakis simplex larvae occurred in 2 fishes (5.2%, 2 species) and Contrac
aecum sp. larvae in one fish only.
