Prevalence of ascaridoid larvae in Kuwaiti food fishes

Three hundred and six fish comprising 83 species were examined for ascarido id larvae during the period from October 1992 to September 1995. Thirty eig ht fishes (10.5%) belonging to 22 species were infected with 9 types of asc aridoid third-stage larvae: Anisakis simplex, Ten anova sp., Contracacum sp . and 6 different types of Hysterothylacium sp. (KA-KF). Hysterothylacium l arvae (including all types) were found in all of the infected fishes except one (97.3%); Terranova larvae were found in 12 fishes (31.5%, 12 species); Anisakis simplex larvae occurred in 2 fishes (5.2%, 2 species) and Contrac aecum sp. larvae in one fish only.
