M. Shehata et F. Al-ruwaih, Relationship between the transmissivity and the specific capacity data of the Moghra Aquifer System, Western Desert, Egypt, KUWAIT J S, 25(2), 1998, pp. 443-456
Usually, transmissivity of aquifers is calculated by evaluating aquifer tes
t data. However, due to the difficulty of carrying out such tests in additi
on to their relatively high costs, it is often calculated from specific cap
acity data. In this work, an empirical relationship is derived using 101 pa
irs of transmissivity and specific capacity values which are obtained from
pumping test analyses of groundwater wells penetrating the Moghra Aquifer S
ystem in the northern part of Western Desert, Egypt. Linear and logarithmic
regression functions have been performed, and it has been found that the l
ogarithmic relationship, predicting transmissivity from the specific capaci
ty values, has a greater correlation coefficient (r = 0.93) than the linear
relationship (r = 0.82). This relationship can be justified because transm
issivity and specific capacity are log-normally distributed.
