The paper deals with the modelling and simulation aspects of the main compo
nents of a solar hot water system. Mathematical model was developed to desc
ribe the thermal behaviour and energy balance of different solar collectors
and hot water storage tanks. Block-oriented simulation technique was used
to obtain the solution of the dynamic model. For the identification of the
model a laboratory scale measurement was carried out. The results of the si
mulation could support the selection of appropriate components and sizing o
f a solar domestic hot water system to be built. (C) 1998 IMACS/Elsevier Sc
