Pachycereus tepamo (Cactaceae, Cactoideae, Pachycereeae), a new species fro
m the lower basin of the Balsas River, in the state of Michoacan, Mexico, i
s described and illustrated. Information concerning its habitat, geographic
distribution, and uses is also presented. In addition, morphological chara
cters are used to compare this species with P. grandis, P. pecten-aboriginu
m, and P. weberi, its closest allied species.
