Modern number magic: Choosing one's wedding date

Dates with same-digits (1/1/11, 2/2/22, etc.) offer the rare opportunity to study people's reactions to the conspicuousness of repetition. Anecdotal e vidence suggests that such dales are considered special and preferably sele cted for celebrations of various kinds. This note compares the number of ci vil ceremonies at Zurich, Switzerland, on four different dates. On both 7/7 /77 (a Thursday) and 8/8/88 (a Monday) there were significantly more ceremo nies than on two respective control dates which contain two differing digit s (Monday, 8/8/77 and Thursday, 7/7/88). Suggestions for prospective resear ch on September 9, 1999 are given.
