J. Kuntze et al., Reconstruction and dislocation network formation of the (111) surface of the ordered alloy Pt3Sn, PHYS REV B, 58(24), 1998, pp. R16005-R16008
A Scanning tunneling microscopy study of the ordered alloy Pt3Sn is present
ed. The (111) surface shows a bulk terminated p(2x 2) structure or a (root
3 x root 5) R30 degrees reconstruction, depending on preparation conditions
. In addition, the reconstructed surface exhibits a mesoscopic honeycomb ne
twork. The network indicates the presence of subsurface dislocations, which
are induced by a tin depletion due to preferential sputtering. On the p(2x
2) structure small islands with uniform size are found, which are attribute
d to segregated tin. [S0163-1829(98)50948-4].
