We introduce the negative hypergeometric states of the quantized radiation
field. The importance of these states lies in the. fact that they interpola
te between the binomial states and negative binomial states, and tend to th
em in two different limits. In some other limiting cases, they degenerate t
o the number, coherent and Susskind-Glogower phase states, respectively. It
is shown that some nonclassical properties of these states, such as antibu
nching effect and sub-Poissonian statistics, also display intermediary beha
