Levels and prevalence of risk factors, prevalence of ischemic heart di
sease and their relationships were studied in a randomly selected repr
esentative sample of professional car drivers. High prevalence of hype
rtension, hypercholesterolemia and smoking either separately or in com
binations was observed. Presence of ischemic heart disease correlated
positively with hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, body mass and smok
ing. Unfavorable epidemiological situation relative to ischemic heart
disease morbidity and mortality revealed in this professional group de
mands urgent preventive measures.
