Given the trend towards higher speeds and single-tier configurations as wel
l as limitations in wet pressing, drying sections are becoming increasingly
long. In order to address this issue investigations were made into the app
lication of impingement drying hoods to conventional cylinders. Pilot trial
s show that impingement yields drying rates greater than those of steam cyl
inders with no detrimental effect on paper properties and may be applied to
successfully control curl.
