Effect of concomitant injection of prostaglandin and PMSG on pregnancy rate and prolificacy of artificially inseminated Spanish goats synchronized with controlled internal drug release devices
Df. Waldron et al., Effect of concomitant injection of prostaglandin and PMSG on pregnancy rate and prolificacy of artificially inseminated Spanish goats synchronized with controlled internal drug release devices, SMALL RUMIN, 31(2), 1999, pp. 177-179
Controlled internal drug release (CIDR) devices containing progesterone wer
e used for 16 days to synchronize estrus in 108 mature Spanish does in the
natural breeding season. Pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG, 250 IU) w
as given to all does 48 h prior to CIDR removal. At the time of treatment w
ith PMSG, a random half of the does received prostaglandin (PGF, 5 mg dinop
rost tromethamine, Lutalyse) to determine the effect of its addition on pre
gnancy rates and prolificacy in artificially inseminated does, Mean pregnan
cy rates, 64.5% and 59.5%, and prolificacy, 170% and 166%, were not signifi
cantly different (P>0.05) for does treated with PMSG or PMSG/PGF, respectiv
ely. Administering PGF to does on this synchronization regimen in the natur
al breeding season is unwarranted. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All right
