Abstract
A novel series of fluorescent labels containing multiple fluorescein moieti es attached to a bridgehead-substituted adamantane has been synthesized. Mo lecules containing two, three or four fluorescein residues were prepared an d their fluorescence was measured. The rigid adamantane core prevents fluor escein moieties from intramolecular collisions, thus precluding mutual fluo rescence quenching. proposed design allows building the molecular probes wi th amplified fluorescence signal by combining several fluorophores in a mol ecule.
