Abstract
To determine the effects of endometrial ablation using Cavaterm thermal bal loon, a prospective observational study took place on 34 patients suffering with menorrhagia. All had the procedure performed under general anaestheti c and all required sedation. All patients in the study were followed up at three, six and nine months. At present the results are encouraging showing at six months ten (31%) with amenorrhoea and three (9%) spotting, with ligh t periods eight (25%), with normal cycles four (13%). Three remained heavy (9%). At nine months the amenorrhoea rate and spotting was noticed in four (40%) followed up at present with four (40%) periods becoming lighter. Pati ents will be followed up to two years to evaluate the long term benefit.
