N. Purnaghschband et al., The valency of laparoscopy in the diagnostic and therapeutic intervention of endometriosis genitalis externa, 7TH CONGRESS OF THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR GYNAECOLOGICAL ENDOSCOPY, 1998, pp. 83-88
Despite intensive research endometriosis is still a disease varying in clin
ical presentation. Although endometriosis can be suspected in different cas
es, the only way to definitive diagnosis is visualisation of the deposits b
y laparoscopy.
In this paper we analysed the influence of new techniques and improved inst
ruments on the number of diagnosed patients with endometriosis and the loca
lisation of the deposits. To mark the differences we divided the patients b
y date of operation in three groups: first one (I): 1978-1993, second one (
II): 1993-1995 and third one (III): 1996-1997.
In the first group the total of endoscopies done was 2094. Endometriosis wa
s detected in 171 cases (8,2%). In group II 626 (32,2%) of the 1945 patient
s who had an endoscopy were found to have endometriosis and in the third gr
oup in 482 (24,8%) of 1946 cases the diagnosis endometriosis was made by la
paroscopy. Nowadays an improvement of diagnostic frequency of the endometri
osis is only achievable by using all opportunities given by laparoscopy and
a profound knowledge of the clinical picture of endometriosis which is qui
te variable.
