In this era of cost containement, the pendulum is swinging "Back to the Sut ure" instead of using the more costly stapling devices. Intracorporeal and extracorporeal knot tying procedures have become so complex as to make lapa roscopic suturing a formidable task. Endoscopic suturing must be so simple that it be easily taught and hence easily mastered. The learning curve in e ndoscopic suturing is inversely proportional to the number of steps require d to do the suturing, hence the proposed suture locking mechanisms.
