M. Fehr et al., The Hydrothermablation (HTA) in local anaesthesia, 7TH CONGRESS OF THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR GYNAECOLOGICAL ENDOSCOPY, 1998, pp. 145-147
The Hydrothermablation (HTA) is a new technique for ablation of the endomet
rium of the uterus. Patients with hypermenorrhoea are treated with GnRH-Ago
nists during two months before the operation. Uterine fibroids or polyps as
cause for the hypermenorrhoea should be excluded by histology first. The H
TA is done with a local cervical anaesthesia. Our preliminary experience sh
ows that the patients feel the cervix dilation but do not feel any pain dur
ing the instillation of the hot saline sloution. The procedure takes about
30 minutes. The patients stay in the hospital for two more hours for postop
erative check-ups. This operation causes low treatment costs by using local
anaesthesia and by being an outpatient treatment. In conclusion, the HTA o
ffers a simple and revolutionary, alternative treatment for patients suffer
ing from dysfunctional uterine bleeding. This being possible in local anaes
thesia causes lower costs, no pain and short operation time.
