The current-field diagram of a type-II superconductor resistive state
is considered on the basis of exact solutions for helical magnetic vor
tices inside superconducting cylinder and plate. A generalized Silsbee
rule for the onset of dissipation in external magnetic field parallel
to a transport current is stated. A variety of dissipation cycles wit
h oscillations of the longitudinal magnetic moment and emf are shown t
o be a possibility due to the left-handed spiral instability of longit
udinal vortices, especially in low-dimensional cases.
