Abstract
It is suggested that a Pr ion YBaCuO is in a mixed valency state (4f(2 ) <-> 4f(1)) with a period of less than 10(-13) s. The 4f-configuratio n is involved in the formation of a Pr-O chemical bond with the same t ime scale. This results in a localization of free carriers (holes) and in a suppresion of superconductivity.
