Abstract
This review presents the recent and possible future development trends in t he application of microdialysis in biotechnological processes. Microdialysi s is compared to other sampling strategies for bioprocess monitoring. An an alysis of the microdialysis experiment, different probe designs, membrane c haracteristics and performance as reflected by the extraction fraction and the application to different bioprocesses is given.
