Abstract
A technique based on self-diffraction of the recording laser beams, one of which is phase modulated, is used for the estimation of the limiting trap c oncentration in photorefractive crystals. The amplitudes of the first and s econd harmonics of the diffracted beam have to be measured and from these d ata the trap concentration can be deduced. The technique is illustrated usi ng photorefractive sillenite crystals (Bi12GeO20, Bi12SiO20, Bi12TiO20).
