In order to specify the nature of the sharp-lined A1V star HD72660, its eff
ective temperature and surface gravity have been determined using two diffe
rent methods. First, the ultraviolet energy distribution of HD 72660 has be
en compared with that of the normal AO star HD 10939 and with the predictio
ns of two model atmospheres. Secondly, the parameters have been derived fro
m Moon & Dworetsky's (1985) calibration of uvby colors. Both methods yield
consistent values T-eff = 9750 +/- 200 K, logg = 4.00 +/- 0.20 dex.
In a second part, high resolution high signal to noise optical spectra cent
ered on lambda 4500 Angstrom, lambda 5080 Angstrom and lambda 6160 Angstrom
have been synthesized using Gray's (1995) and Takeda's (1995) LTE codes. T
he abundances of 13 elements were derived. C and O are found to be underabu
ndant with respect to the solar value (-0.60 and -0.52 dex respectively) wh
ereas Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni are overabundant (between +0.37 and +0.72 dex). Ca app
ears to be moderately overabundant (+0.16 dex). These results suggest that
HD 72660 is a hot Am star.
