Free convective mass transfer at down-pointing triangular surfaces of diffe
rent length and down-facing inclination was investigated using the limiting
diffusion current technique of mass transfer measurement. The mass transfe
r rate was observed to be higher for a down-pointing triangular inclined su
rface over the entire range of inclination than that for an inclined rectan
gular surface because of the different "leading edge" condition. A mass tra
nsfer correlation for down-facing inclined triangular surfaces of different
length was found to be Sh(L) = 0.774 (Ra-L cos theta)(0.25) for the Ra-L c
os theta range from 2.10(6) to 2.10(11).
