Abstract
The electrooxidative polymerization of the entitled monomer on a platinum e lectrode in an acetonitrile solution containing 0.1 M LiClO4 was studied by cyclic voltammetry, controlled-potential electrolysis, scanning electron m icrographs (SEM) and FT-IR spectroscopy. The prepared polymeric films of th icknesses up to several mu m (5 mu m) were found to be very stable and inso luble in aqueous acidic solutions and in all common organic solvents. The f ilms were electroactive in acidic solutions but electroinactive in acetonit rile. The formal redox potential of the resulting platinum film electrode w as ca. 0.56 V vs Ag/Ag+ in 1.0 M acidic chloride aqueous solution (pH 0). T he modified electrode was shown to decrease the overpotential for the oxida tion of hydroquinone. In addition to the decrease in overpotential, there w as also an increase in the current for the oxidation process. (C) 1998 Else vier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
