M. De Perrot et al., Successful combined lung and kidney transplantation for pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis and renal angiolipomas, EUR RESP J, 12(6), 1998, pp. 1479-1481
Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and renal angiolipomas are rare bu
t distinct clinical entities that share similar morphological features. Lun
g transplantation is considered as a valuable therapeutic modality in patie
nts with endstage pulmonary LAM, However, in some patients, renal complicat
ions due to bleeding angiomyolipomas and cyclosporin-induced nephropathy ha
ve become newly identified problems.
This study reports the first case of combined lung and kidney transplantati
on for pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis and renal angiolipomas, Two years
after transplantation, renal and pulmonary function have remained stable a
nd the patient has resumed a normal daily life, including a full-time profe
ssional activity.
