In this paper an examination is made of the performance characteristics of
a scheme of chaos control using optimised impulsive delayed feedback. The s
cheme is applied in a model of external cavity laser diodes giving attentio
n to the application of the feedback via modulation of the laser drive curr
ent taking into account practical constraints arising from technical delay
and the frequency in application of the control signal. It is demonstrated
that by use of a so-called E-ball condition chaos control is achievable in
the fully developed coherence collapse regime without preliminary targeting
dynamics to an unstable orbit.
