Spontaneous coronary artery dissection is a rare cause of myocardial ischae
mia. Typically it affects young, apparently healthy females, and may result
in significant myocardial loss or even death. Due to the rarity of the con
dition there are no clear guidelines for its management. We describe two ca
ses of spontaneous coronary artery dissection and report successful coronar
y stenting of the affected artery in one patient. We believe that this inte
rventional technique may be the treatment of choice in selected patients wi
th this condition. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. All rights reserv
