M. Chen et al., Direct numerical simulation of droplet collisions in a turbulent channel flow. Part I: collision algorithm, INT J MULT, 24(7), 1998, pp. 1079-1103
Fundamental understanding of the complex behavior of small droplets or part
icles in wall bounded turbulence and their interaction with the surrounding
fluid is critical in a number of industrial processes. One approach for ga
ining valuable insight is the direct numerical simulation (DNS) of turbulen
ce in conjunction with numerical computation of particle trajectories. Most
previous work was limited to dilute suspensions of non-colliding particles
. Part I of this paper extends previous methods by allowing for interpartic
le collisions. Part II presents results for the rate of collision between a
erosol droplets. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
