Abstract
Part I of this paper extended previous methods of particle tracking in Dire ct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of turbulence by allowing for inter-particle collisions. Part II employs these methods to investigate the early stages of evolution of mono-size suspensions of coalescing droplets, uniformly rel eased in air, The droplet diameter was varied in the range 3 to 17 mu m. Th e average collision rate in the channel core was found to be strongly depen dent on the droplet inertia. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights rese rved.
