M. Chen et al., Direct numerical simulation of droplet collisions in a turbulent channel flow. Part II: collision rates, INT J MULT, 24(7), 1998, pp. 1105-1138
Part I of this paper extended previous methods of particle tracking in Dire
ct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of turbulence by allowing for inter-particle
collisions. Part II employs these methods to investigate the early stages
of evolution of mono-size suspensions of coalescing droplets, uniformly rel
eased in air, The droplet diameter was varied in the range 3 to 17 mu m. Th
e average collision rate in the channel core was found to be strongly depen
dent on the droplet inertia. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights rese
