Abstract
A simple formula for estimating the clutter rank in the case of subarr aying is derived. The well-known Brennan's rule can be viewed as a spe cial case of this formula. With the help of this formula, an insight i nto the eigenspectrum structure of the clutter in the case of subarray ing can be achieved, and can be used to design an optimal subarraying. The simulation also verifies the accuracy of this formula.
