This paper formulates a one-dimensional drying process taking place in a we
t porous medium with a nonpenetrating heating surface. In this drying proce
ss, heat transfer is caused by conduction, and water vapor transfer is caus
ed by diffusion. The driving force of the diffusion process is the saturate
d water vapor pressure corresponding to the local temperature. The evaporat
ion of water and the condensation of water vapor take place simultaneously
in the drying process. Evaporation and condensation represent a heat sink a
nd a heat source in the porous medium, respectively, which are included in
the present problem formulation. The numerical model is validated by compar
ison with experimental data.
