Abstract
Upper and lower bounds are derived for the area under the receiver-operatin g-characteristic (ROC) curve of binary hypothesis testing. These results ar e compared with the;area-under-the-curve (AUC) approximation and the AUC lo wer bound recently reported by Barrett ct al. [J. Opt. Sec. Am A 15, 1520 ( 1998)].
