The mechanical properties and the dislocation microstructure of single crys
tals with a range of compositions within the (Fe,Ni)-Al pseudobinary system
have been investigated, with the purpose of bridging the behavior from FeA
l to NiAl. Initial experiments are focused on compression testing of [001]
oriented single crystals with a family of compositions of the form Fe-x-Ni6
0-x-Al-40 (where x = 60, 50 and 10 at.%). Measurements of yield strength an
d work hardening rates have been correlated with overall dislocation morpho
logy, dislocation dissociation width and the presence of APE tubes. (C) 199
