Intra-operative internal carotid stent implantation with angioscopic control

The authors have performed intra-operative carotid stent implantation in th e Departement of Surgery of th Medical University Pecs since September 1995 , After thrombendarteriectomy of the carotid bifurcation they perform inter nal carotid stent implantation. The authors report 17 cases: In 12 patients a long stent was indicated, in 3 patients stent implantation was performed for fixing the intima, in 2 cases for the simoultaneous correction of sten osis and kinking. In the opinion of the authors this method is quick, safe and can be applied in 15-20 per cent of the carotid operations. The videoan gioscopy and the post-operative PPS-treatment improve the safety of the pro cedure.
