Abstract
Coumarin (1) and two new phenolic glycosides have been isolated from the st em bark of Amburana cearensis, a tree reported in the Chacobo pharmacopoeia to be used against fever-causing diseases. The novel compounds were identi fied as: 4-(O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl)-hydroxy-7-(3',4'-dihydroxy-benzoyl)-be nzyl alcohol (2) and 4-(O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl)-hydroxy-7-(3'-methoxy-,4'- hydroxy-benzoyl)-benzyl alcohol (3). All three compounds were assayed in vi tro for antimalarial, antiprotozoal antifungal and antibacterial activities . (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
