This article describes cervical root resorption, an external inflammat
ory root resorption arising immediately below the attachment level of
the root, The pathogenesis is not fully understood, although many theo
ries have been presented. Clinically, cervical root resorption is usua
lly asymptomatic. The radiographic appearance is variable and is easil
y mistaken for that of internal root resorption. Histologically, the p
