Abstract
From the aerial parts of Xanthium strumarium, three new xanthanolide and xa nthane-type sesquiterpenoids, 11 alpha,13-dihydroxanthatin (2), 4 beta,5 be ta-epoxyxanthatin-1 alpha,4 alpha-endoperoxide (3), and 1 beta,4 beta,4 alp ha,5 alpha-diepoxyxanth-11(13)-en-12-oic acid (10) have been isolated, toge ther with seven known compounds. The structures were determined by spectros copic methods, particularly high resolution 1D, 2D NMR spectroscopy and NOE experiments.
