Abstract
The perfectly matched layer (PML) is usually used with a profile of va riable conductivity which decreases numerical reflections. The authors prove that this is a problem of field representation and not of condu ctivity discontinuity, which leads to the proposal of a non-uniform ma p of space using constant conductivity.
