Thermodynamic parameters for the dissolution of dioxane, carbon tetrachlori
de, acetone, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, and ethanol in ethyl cellulose
at temperatures above the glass transition point were determined by the me
thod or reversed-phase gas chromatography. The exothermal character of diss
olution, a wide range of variation of the increments of the thermodynamic p
arameters of dissolution, and their dependence on the molar volume of sorba
te are indicative of a highly ordered packing of polymer molecules and the
possibility of sorption of the low-molecular-mass compounds in elements of
the nonequilibrium free volume of ethyl cellulose. It i established that th
e main contribution to the energy of sorbate dissolution in the polymer is
due to the enthalpy factor.
