Hexagonal strontium ferrite has been prepared from the soluble nitrate salt
s of strontium and iron with citric acid and ethylenglycol. Dehydration was
performed through the long time vacuum drying as well as through the liqui
d drying in ethylalcohol. The initial Sr / Fe ratio 1:10.5 was chosen. To o
btain the required ferrite composition a cumulative thermal treatment as we
ll as a treatment in a microwave oven was performed. The single phase hexag
onal structure was obtained at the temperature 950 degrees C during 10 minu
tes when microwave heating was used. For the process verification Mossbauer
spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements were applied. The fi
nal strontium ferrite powder showed specific magnetic polarisation J(s) of
115.5 x 10(-6) T kg(-1) m(3), a coercivity H-c 365 kA m(-1), and a squarene
ss S of 0.588.
